How to play

• Shape the land. Left click raises the ground at a corner, right click lowers it. It costs favor, which flows from your worshippers. Your people only build on flat land, and a building grows from tent to castle with the flat farmland around it. New homes keep at least 3 empty tiles from any other home, so flatten fresh ground a little way out for your settlers.
• Flatten (F): click a tile to level the 3x3 patch around it in one go (over the sea it makes new land), or click one of your homes to level all its farmland, castle-size.
• Give orders. Settle to spread and build, Gather to seek each other out and merge into strong war bands, Fight to attack enemies nearby (or near your banner), Rally to march to your banner behind your champion.
• Plant your banner (B) to aim your people: under Fight they attack the enemies nearest it, under Rally they march to it. The first to reach it under Rally becomes your champion, who fights twice as hard and never tires.
• Send out (X): click one of your buildings to send half its people out. A home also sends people out by itself when it's full.
• Walkers tire. Out in the open a group slowly loses people, so give them flat land to settle. Under Gather or Rally, two of your groups that meet merge into one; under Settle, walkers that have been out a while move into a half-empty home of yours. Your people tread roads between neighbouring homes and move faster on them. Trees slowly spread over empty land, and trees near a home help its people multiply. The land matters too: walkers wear out faster in the desert, the ashen wastes and the frozen north, and people multiply more slowly in the frozen north and the ashen wastes.
• Victory feeds favor. Every enemy your people cut down earns you a little favor, and slaying an enemy champion a lot.
• Battles take time. A group's people are its health, and each round it strikes once with its best weapons. A band of knights cuts down a band of peasants far faster than they can hurt it, but many small groups striking together can swarm it.
• World rules. Each world after the first has its own rules, shown when it starts: you may only be able to shape land near your people or towns, sending people out may be forbidden, and sinking land may drown people instead of letting them scramble ashore.
• Bigger buildings make better fighters. Tents send out peasants, huts militia, cottages spearmen, houses axemen, manors swordsmen and castles mounted knights, each much stronger than the last. Every manor and castle you hold also adds to your Might, strengthening all your fighters (up to +60%).
• Beware the Elder Gods. They hold off for the first 5 to 7 minutes of each world. After that, omens warn of earthquakes, floods, tornadoes, fire and plague a few seconds before they strike. Your own god's wrath spares you. Raise land against floods, move people away from omens.
• Win when only your banner (and your allies') remain, then march on to the next, harder world.
• Keys: arrows, WASD, the mouse wheel or middle-drag to look around (or click the map); 1 to 4 for the orders (Settle, Gather, Fight, Rally); T or Esc shape, F flatten, B banner, X send out; H finds your people, M mutes the sound, Enter to chat.
• On a phone or tablet: pick Raise or Lower, then tap the land, or hold to keep shaping as you slide. Drag to look around. The map and the chronicle open from the buttons at the top.
